UGEP-Chile Campaigned for Academic Boycott

ESTAMOS DE VUELTA means WE ARE BACK.

Chile’s UGEP (General Union of Palestinian Students) was campaigning to cut of academic ties between Israel and the University of Chile.

The tweet was dated to July 20. I am not sure what has happened since.

I am not sure if Israel does much to contain this. Maybe they see Chile as a lost cause. Argentina is iffy, as it has a strong Jewish community, and the tone of debate tends to be controlled by Lebanese Maronites, who tend to be Westernized.

Brazil is pro-Israel right now, due to the fact that it has an extraordinarily large Evangelical constituency, and its Arab community – which is very large – is dominated by Maronites.

Radicalization of Chile’s Arabs Again

NOTE: This post was originally made on June 7, 2013. I have updated the information, and reset the date, because this is critical information that needs to be re-examined.

I have reported before on the radicalization of Chile’s Palestinian Population.

Their statistics:

1) The Palestinians in Chile number roughly 500,000.
2) They constitute the largest number of Palestinians outside the Mideast.
3) More Palestinian Christians are in Chile than in the Mideast.
4) The Palestinians in Chile are roughly 99% CHRISTIAN.
5) Many have ancestors who arrived in South America before 1930, before Israel; so they can’t blame all of their predicament on Israel.
6) They are often very rich, elite in Chile; so they can’t complain that their lives are worse off.

You would think such a group of Christians would not espouse the Islamicized cause of Palestinian nationalism; but you would be wrong. In 1947, though the government of Chile was initially predisposed to vote for the partition of Palestine in the UN vote, creating a Jewish state; but the Palestinians in Chile were so powerful, even at that early date, that they forced the government of Chile to abstain. One Chilean government official resigned in protest.

Today, the Palestinians in Chile are very radicalized against Israel.

2013 UGEP webpage – No longer online

Take a look at the 2013 home page for the website for the Union General de Estudiantes Palestinos (UGEP) [General Union of Palestinian Students]. It is no longer online, but the UGEP has not disappeared in Chile. The UGEP still runs a prominent Facebook Page; and they work with other anti-Israel groups in Chile.

But, notice the prominent placement given the Dome of the Rock, a Muslim Shrine, on their homepage banner for the 2013 Website.

Yet, almost all these Chilean students are Christians. Their ancestors came from Bethlehem, Beit Sahour, and Beit Jala … all of which were heavily Christian when their ancestors left.

Why didn’t a picture of a church figure prominently in their banner image? I know the Dome of the Rock is an impressive site which defines the image of Jerusalem; but these Palestinian-Chileans are primarily Christian.

When you study the activities of Christian-Palestinian-Chileans, they will often be using Islamic imagery. It is scary.

Yo Soy Palestino (I am Palestinian) – April 10, 2016 – by Federación Palestina de Chile.
The music in the background is the Palestinian national anthem: Biladi

The most prominent of the Palestinian-Chilean groups is the Federación Palestina de Chile (Palestine Federation of Chile). They run charities, education programs – see video to the side, where the educate the children – and they have massive political clout.

The radicalization of Chile’s Palestinians is a growing phenomenom in the West. Yet, the United States and Israel, while complaining, are doing very little to counter this. A big mistake.

Chile’s Palestinians are the vanguard of anti-Israel propaganda in South America. Because Chile’s Palestinians are so rich, they have clout in a country which is South America’s rising economic star. They have the power to change a lot of public opinion in the Latin world.

Latin America is now becoming an economic powerhouse. It can no longer be ignored. Something has to be done to counter the strident anti-Israeli bias of Palestinian-Chileans. Now is the time to deal with this.

This phenomenom seems to be growing. Websites groups may come and go, but the the Federación Palestina de Chile seems to be the central organizing agency, now. It has massive political clout, and merits watching.

Chile’s UGEP is Radicalized

Bvr32wNIUAAl0NM[1]

This is a notice for a debate on Wednesday August 26 between supporters of Israel and Palestine.

It was posted on the UGEP-Chile Twitter Post earlier today.

The Union General de Estudiantes Palestinos (General Union of Palestinian Students) UGEP is a transnational group. This is their Chilean branch.

This debate looks proper, but one has to go to the UGEP Site to see how hostile to Israel they are.

Almost all of Chile’s Palestinians (500,000) are Christians. Chile has only 4,000 Muslims out of 17 Million people, making Chile one of the most Muslim free countries on earth. Even if all the Muslims in Chile were Palestinian – which is preposterous – it would still mean that less than 1% of the Palestinians in Chile are Muslim.

So it is amazing to see Palestinian-Christian-Chileans supporting an Islamist group like Hamas.

Even the Chilean Media is deceptive.

This history of Arabs in Chile starts off with Muslims bowing down in prayer. Yet 99% plus of Chile’s Arabs are Christians. NOT Muslims. Why the deception?!

Chilean Media portray a Muslim heritage in Chile that barely ever existed.

Half the world’s Christian (Not Muslim) Palestinians live in Chile. They are elite and have clout well above their numbers (3% of the population in Chile). These Christian Palestinians are swinging Chile and a continent by deception.

I am Palestinian – Chile

This is a video that I translated in 2013.

The is the UGEP (General Union of Palestinian Students) in Chile.

The Palestinians are elites in Chile, and they are swinging the policies of an up and coming Chile. Chile is now first world, and the rising star of Latin America.

FREE PALESTINE - UGEP - Chile
FREE PALESTINE
Building a bridge of dialogue
in place of a Separational Wall.

The General Union of Palestinians Students (UGEP in Spanish) is not a small force to be ignored.

Yasser Arafat came out the Mideastern Branch of the Palestinian Student Union.

As you can see by that map on the poster, above, The UGEP does not recognize Israel at all.  As far as the UGEP is concerned, all of Israel is Palestine.

The video above portrays idealistic Chilean Youth. No doubt, many are.  What the video does not show is that the UGEP advocates the destruction of Israel.  The poster’s words advocate dialogue.  The poster’s map advocate destruction.

The UGEP, even in Chile where almost all Palestinians are Christian, advocates a very hard party line.

It may not look as severe because the women are Christians, and not burqa clad women with their roiling tongue curdling screams; but in the end, they advocate no less that their Muslim cousins.

Note: My own view is nuanced: Historically, the  Jew have the best claim to Israel for many reasons. I do not see Jews as invaders to their own patrimony in the Mideast.  The Jews do have a claim to the land.

But, sadly, neither can I deny that the Israelis ethnically cleansed the Palestinians in 1948 and 1967, nor that Palestinians were and are mistreated.  No nation is perfect.   We Americans were not perfect.   Chile – the nation these youth live in how – was guilty of ethnically cleansing its Mapuche and Quechua Indians.   No nation is perfect.

Innocent people were hurt in 1948; and yes, that includes innocent Arabs.

Unlike these youth, I do NOT  think the destruction of Israel as a homeland for the Jews is the answer. That would be insane.  Destroying or re-defining the Jewishness out of Israel is not the answer to the problem.

Israel has a right to be the homeland for the Jewish people.

There is too much hurt, too much history, and too much blood, for the Jews to surrender their state.

Sadly, there is too much hurt, too much history, and too much blood, for the Palestinians to forget.

Islam is too radicalized for the Israeli Jews to trust their fate to a one-state solution, which allows for the Palestinians to return; and which restores an angry Islamic majority to the land. Israeli Jews will never do it. Nor should they be asked to dissolve their state.

THE BEST SOLUTION
!

I think the best solution is to pay the Palestinians to leave for the West, preferably South America, which has  history of assimilating the Arabs well.

Pay them well … about $100,000 per Palestinian.

This may not be a totally just solution, but it is the least destructive.   I know it is awful to ask the Palestinians to surrender their claims to the land; but the only alternative is nuclear war – a nuclear war where they would be targeted.

I know some will say: It is not right to write the Palestinians out of history.  You are right!

Indeed it is wrong to write the Palestinians out of history.

It would be FAR MORE WRONG to write Israel out of history.

Ultimately – as cruel as it may sound – this cold logic applies:  If there are 22 Arab states, it would be wrong to dismantle the only Jewish state to correct the injustice and to restore another Arab state.

It is wrong to deny the Palestinians a right to return, but it is MORE WRONG to dismantle Israel as the homeland for the Jews.

There is no  completely just solution here … only a less destructive one.

Denying Israel is NOT the answer.

The Jewish right to Israel and Jerusalem is solid.

I am not saying Palestinians were not hurt; but the destruction of Israel is NOT the answer.

Finally, there is a spiritual side to this.

On the spiritual side, Israel is totally right.   There may be some political wrongs, but in the end, Israel has the better claim.
