Group Studes Latin – Arab Relations

Group studies relations between Arabs and Latin AmericaSão Paulo – Two years ago, a group of researchers from different countries decided to join forces to form a centre for studies to examine relations between the countries of the Middle East and North Africa and the nations in Latin America. Thus arose New Generation Consulting, a think tank based in Lebanon that is seeking closer ties with Brazilian organisations.
“There is a very strong and great potential among the regions of the Arab world and Latin America in terms of diaspora, culture and trade. There are strong complementarities, but no one really focused on how to build bridges between the two regions,” said the French-Chilean Janaina Herrera, managing director of the think tank. She and the Lebanese Issam Al Khatib, COO and technological consultant at the research centre, visited the headquarters of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce on Thursday (06) and were greeted by the organisation’s director-general, Michel Alaby.
The New Generation Consulting has ten professionals in different areas, Economics, Anthropology, Political Science and Diplomacy, among others. The centre also has a network of supporters including entrepreneurs who help the project.
Israel and America should not be ignoring this.
It should be noted that the Arabs in Brazil are heavily Lebanese-Christian, and fairly moderate.

Despite his Lebanese heritage, the head of the Office of the Comptroller General of Brazil is in Lebanon for the first time. Having attended a conference in Beirut with representatives of countries such as Egypt, Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Algeria, Hage decided to extend his stay to visit Qaitouleh, the village of his ancestors.

What is interesting is how matter-of-factly they refer to Palestine. The South Americans have recognized Palestine as a nation.
This would not be so commonly seen in American reporting.
Jorge Hage is the Comptroller-General of Brazil, which is a cabinet position in that country, roughly equivalent to our Secretary of the Treasury.

The first thing one notices is that the Lebanese of Chile avoid involvement in the politics of the Israel-Palestine Mideast Crisis. A lot of these protests were during the Hezbollah-Israel War in 2006, but there seems to be no condemnation of Israel.
At (0:39) the poster says: A Message of Peace. John Paul II. These Maronites Catholics were not fans of Hezbollah. They may or may not love Israel, but the Lebanese Christians despised Hezbollah for starting the 2006 War.
As noted, the Lebanese in Chile are over 99% Christian, and heavily Catholic. Lebanese are the most Westernized of the Arab peoples, and here they show it. They are usually a moderating influence in the Arab community. No condemnation of Israel.
This video is a shining example of their assimilation and Westernization. They are a credit to Chile.
