TeleSur’s report on Nakba Day (Day of Arab Catastrophe), 2017. No translation is necessary.
May 15 is the Day of Israel’s Independence Day. However, the Palestinians refer to it as the day of their catastrophe, their expulsion from the land.
Side Note:While May 15 is Israel’s Independence Day on the Western (Gregorian) Calendar, the Israelis use a Jewish calendar to celebrate the day, and it can change on the Western Calendar from year to year.
Venezuela runs a network TeleSur (TeleSouth) which broadcasts to all of Latin America. It is very leftist. Venezuela has a sort of alliance with Iran, so it is very biased.
When dealing with Latin America, most of the Arab ethnicities in those countries are either of Lebanese Christian or Syrian Christian extraction. Yes, there are other ethnicities as well; but they tend to be smaller.
This is not true of all Latin American countries, though.
IN CHILE, THE PALESTINIANS ARE THE MAJORITY AMONG THE ARAB ETHNIC GROUPS.
Not just Chile, but also Honduras and El Salvador have prominent Palestinian populations as well. However, since Chile is now a first world nation, and since Chile is an economic powerhouse in Latin America, it is Chile which we will pay attention to the most, in this series.
What one has to know is that Arabs are roughly 5% of Chile’s population; but in Chile, the Palestinians are roughly 60% of the Arabs or 3% of Chile’s population.
They are rich, well-connected, powerful, and influential. They are also Christian, about 99% Christian, often Orthodox Christian.
THOUGH CHRISTIAN, PALESTINIAN CHILEANS SUPPORT THE STRUGGLE AGAINST ISRAEL.
This is just a statement of fact. Palestinian lobbies in Chile are extraordinarily powerful, and they work against Israel.

Chile’s Palestinians (also called Chilestinos or Chilestinians) have distorted the politics of Chile in a way that most Latin American countries have not embraced. Israeli and Jewish groups are worried about that. And in Chile, these Palestinians are respectable.

The vast majority of the inhabitants of the city are Roman Catholics although there are Protestant churches and a synagogue. There are also Muslims in the city, but no mosque. The city is religiously tolerant, a common nationwide characteristic guaranteed by the Argentine Constitution.
This again shows that Arab influences subfuse Argentina, and are embraced by the general population, though divorced from Islam. Notice that there are no mosques in Bahia Blanca.
While there are purportedly Muslims in the city, with no mosque, many will probably follow the historical tendency of Muslims in Argentina to either convert, or intermarry into Christianity.
This is why I think a considerable number of Palestinians could be absorbed into, and assimilated safely into, South America.
Israel would be foolish to not offer young Palestinians compensation – and it would not be cheap, or the Palestinians would be insulted – to consider South America as an alternative. South America would only take in Arabs who came with capital.
South America absorbs Arabs well, embraces much of Arab culture and cuisine, albeit without Islam, and allows the Arabs among them to prosper.
