Group studies relations between Arabs and Latin America

São Paulo – Two years ago, a group of researchers from different countries decided to join forces to form a centre for studies to examine relations between the countries of the Middle East and North Africa and the nations in Latin America. Thus arose New Generation Consulting, a think tank based in Lebanon that is seeking closer ties with Brazilian organisations.

“There is a very strong and great potential among the regions of the Arab world and Latin America in terms of diaspora, culture and trade. There are strong complementarities, but no one really focused on how to build bridges between the two regions,” said the French-Chilean Janaina Herrera, managing director of the think tank. She and the Lebanese Issam Al Khatib, COO and technological consultant at the research centre, visited the headquarters of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce on Thursday (06) and were greeted by the organisation’s director-general, Michel Alaby.

The New Generation Consulting has ten professionals in different areas, Economics, Anthropology, Political Science and Diplomacy, among others. The centre also has a network of supporters including entrepreneurs who help the project.

Israel and America should not be ignoring this.

It should be noted that the Arabs in Brazil are heavily Lebanese-Christian, and fairly moderate.

Details Published on Thursday, 30 May 2013 17:07

Felipe Nuñez, goalkeeper and current captain for the Chilean fútbol team ‘Club Deportivo Palestino’, toured Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem with representatives from the Aida Center Monday.

Nuñez, 34, toured the camp with Marwan Farajeh of the Aida Center and Holy Land Trust, who spoke about the situation of Aida and many of the events that have occurred in the camp both recently and in the past. Touring with them were Nuñez’s wife, Jennifer, journalist Rodrigo Eyzaguirre, and a Spanish-Arabic translator.

Nuñez said this is his first time in Palestine, as it is difficult to travel here from Chile, because of the high cost and long distance.

He said, “I came to the camp to understand the reality of the situation and daily lives of the people here.”

This is a few days old, but still timely. Felipe Núñez is a major star in Chile.

Chile’s Soccer Team C.D. Palestino (Palestinian Sports Club) is now a political force in both Chile, and the contested areas.

Argentinian prosecutor alleges extensive Iranian terror …

The Argentinian prosecutor in charge of investigating the bombing at the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) in Buenos Aires on July 18, 1994, has accused Iran of infiltrating several South American countries and building intelligence stations from which terrorist attacks could be planned and carried out.

Alberto Nisman issued a 502-page indictment on Wednesday placing responsibility for the bombing, which killed 85 people, on the highest authorities in the Islamic Republic.

Let’s hope South America listens.

Cristina Fernandez’s administration is trying to whitewash the crime. Her administration tried to invite Iran to help in the investigation, which was preposterous. Her government tried to cut a deal with Iran.

But, someone in Argentina is standing up to her.

The Argentine judiciary is fighting back against the Argentine government and also against a lot of Latin American countries who collaborate with Iran.

This new report is a slap in the face to the Argentine President, and much of Latin America.

Chile plans to sell Water to Qatar

Controversy in Chile over plans to export melting glaciers to Qatar

Chilean ambassador accuses foreign media of mischaracterizing government role in plans to export freshwater run-off from Patagonian ice field to Middle East.

A Middle Eastern newspaper caused a storm of controversy in Chile this week after publishing an article stating that Qatar would import water extracted from melting glaciers in Patagonia.

This story is beyond odd, with breaking reports and denials, then more breaking reports.

The odd thing is that Northern Chile’s Atacama desert is the driest place on earth with water shortages.

Why would a company export water to literally the opposite end of the planet when his own country needs it.

Chileans are furious about it. (Click this link to read another story about it)

It is not even clear how serious this venture was.

We have to keep an eye on it.

If it is true, Argentina (who owns the other half of Patagonia) will get into the act, and Argentina has more glaciers.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper for Qatar to build a desalinization plant?

But for that, they would have to call in Israeli expertise, not Chilean?
