TeleSur reports from Bethlehem

Compare this with the previous post.

One has to remember that Latin America, with its large Arab population, takes more notice of this than we in the US would.

Here, TeleSur is describing Bethlehem’s Christmas in 2012.

The story is roughly the same; but from a Latin spin.

But notice, how Palestine is blazed on the report title. Most American and European reports would avoid the mention of Israel or Palestine to avoid controversy.

TeleSur comes out of Venezuela, which is Hugo Chavez territory. Chavez is very pro-Palestinian.

Harvest Festival, Mendoza

At the Fiesta de la Vendimia (Harvest Festival), where this dance occured in March 2012 – (remember March is the start of South America’s autumn) – these dancers were pulled by a tractor trailer with the name of Arab Car World. Not that a sign on the trailer says Arab Planet.

From Mendoza, Argentina

Mendoza, Argentina is a province in West Central Argentina with a capital city (of the same name). Greater Mendoza is the largest wine growing region of South America; and is also noted for olive oil production.

The climate is quasi-Mediterranean.

There are a lot of Arabs in the area.

They have an Islamic Center in Mendoza; but again, one has to remember that Islam is still weak in Argentina, and most Muslims are not practicing. Most Arabs in Latin America are Christian.

Bethlehem Christian scouts

In 1948, the city of Bethlehem was 85% Christian. By 1967, the population was 46% Christian. Recently, the Christians have dropped to 10% of the population in the metro area. Clearly, the flight of Christians was primarily during the era of Muslim control during the time of Jordanian rule.

There is also a large anti-Christian element in the Muslim community.

Discrimination against Christians
Posted on December 22, 2011

This is a very beleaguered community. Israel should be doing its best to reach a deal with them, rather than treating them to restrictions more appropriate for the Muslim community.

There are Armenian, Coptic, Greek, Protestant, and Roman Catholic, and Syrian denominations in the city.

It is from this stock that most Palestinian Arabs in Latin America sprang.

Syrian-Palestinian Club in Chile

These kids are charming. Quite wonderful!

Notice the Orthodox Christian priest in the front, the one with the black sacerdotal hat

This is a Syrian-Palestinian gathering in Chile, affiliated with the Orthodox Church.

It should be noted that the Orthodox considered themselves the real Catholic Church, and the Roman Catholic Church to be in serious error. Hence, they will often call themselves the Apostolic Orthodox Catholic Church.
