Chilean Jews Are Warning of Radical Islam in Chile

The Awakening of Radical Islamism in Chile

Chile can easily become the source from which radical Islam spreads throughout Latin America in full view and patience. Attempts have already been made in other places such as Peru, or Bolivarian Venezuela itself, but the results have not been helpful for the vile objectives of radicalism. The steady decline of the Catholic Church, in a deeply believing country like Chile, leaves a vacuum that radical Islamist groups could potentially use.

At this rate, with these investment amounts, it would not be surprising that in less than 5 years, Chile becomes the central Shiite stronghold in Latin America.

The [linked] opinion piece was from a few months ago; but apparently the Jewish authors are worried about the strong influence of radical Islam in Chile.

There is a concern that Chile may become a Shia stronghold in Latin America.

The problem here is that the continuing decline of the Catholic Church in Chile, along with the social unrest, may provide an inroad for Islam. [Read the article!]

The authors fear that because Chile has let in some radical Muslims over the last decade, they feel the infrastructure is already in place for Islamicization.

The problem with this exaggerated fear is that Chile is still less than 0.04% Islamic. There are only 5,000 Muslims out of 18 Million people, less than 1 in 3,000. There are only three or four mosques in the whole country.

Chile is, happily, one of the LEAST Islamic countries on the planet.

My own view is that Chile merits watching, but not so much on the issue of religion. Chilean society is far too secular for Islam to gain a major foothold. Too many forces work against Islam in Chile.

As noted elsewhere on this website, Islam does not stand much of a chance in a culture which ennobles alcohol, rowdy sports, and dancing with women. Islam is no match for the tango or the samba.

Those individuals who are given to moral conservatism – and fed up with Roman Catholicism – are more likely to swing to Pro-Zionist Evangelical Christianity, which already has made major inroads in Brazil and Chile.

What the influence of Iran may achieve is an increase in anti-Zionism or anti-Semitism among some sectors of society; but right now, the Evangelicals are keeping that in check.

The strong influence of Chilestinians [Palestinian-Chileans] has been noticed, but Chilestinians are 99% Christian. They are often quite anti-Israel, but they are NOT Islamic. They are a concern, and a growing one, but not a danger to Christianity.

Iran may get some support from Chilestinians and the Arab-Chilean community, but that may be limited to drug smuggling, money laundering, or anti-Israel activity. I seriously doubt large scale conversions to Islam will occur.

Islam likes to boast of its successes in South America, but in reality, those successes are hopelessly exaggerated, and often end in failure. There will be individuals who may convert, but I do not see societal changes.

If anything, as the Catholic Church declines, it is more likely that Evangelical Protestantism will increase. Brazil is a classic example. Chile is next in line to swing to Evangelicalism.

The authors of the linked opinion piece – who are Jewish – may not appreciate the power of Evangelical Christianity.

Israel should be worried about pro-Iranian activity in Chile insofar as it concerns Israel and Chile’s Jews, but Chile is probably not in any danger.

Radicalization of Chile’s Arabs Again

NOTE: This post was originally made on June 7, 2013. I have updated the information, and reset the date, because this is critical information that needs to be re-examined.

I have reported before on the radicalization of Chile’s Palestinian Population.

Their statistics:

1) The Palestinians in Chile number roughly 500,000.
2) They constitute the largest number of Palestinians outside the Mideast.
3) More Palestinian Christians are in Chile than in the Mideast.
4) The Palestinians in Chile are roughly 99% CHRISTIAN.
5) Many have ancestors who arrived in South America before 1930, before Israel; so they can’t blame all of their predicament on Israel.
6) They are often very rich, elite in Chile; so they can’t complain that their lives are worse off.

You would think such a group of Christians would not espouse the Islamicized cause of Palestinian nationalism; but you would be wrong. In 1947, though the government of Chile was initially predisposed to vote for the partition of Palestine in the UN vote, creating a Jewish state; but the Palestinians in Chile were so powerful, even at that early date, that they forced the government of Chile to abstain. One Chilean government official resigned in protest.

Today, the Palestinians in Chile are very radicalized against Israel.

2013 UGEP webpage – No longer online

Take a look at the 2013 home page for the website for the Union General de Estudiantes Palestinos (UGEP) [General Union of Palestinian Students]. It is no longer online, but the UGEP has not disappeared in Chile. The UGEP still runs a prominent Facebook Page; and they work with other anti-Israel groups in Chile.

But, notice the prominent placement given the Dome of the Rock, a Muslim Shrine, on their homepage banner for the 2013 Website.

Yet, almost all these Chilean students are Christians. Their ancestors came from Bethlehem, Beit Sahour, and Beit Jala … all of which were heavily Christian when their ancestors left.

Why didn’t a picture of a church figure prominently in their banner image? I know the Dome of the Rock is an impressive site which defines the image of Jerusalem; but these Palestinian-Chileans are primarily Christian.

When you study the activities of Christian-Palestinian-Chileans, they will often be using Islamic imagery. It is scary.

The music in the background is the Palestinian national anthem: Biladi

The most prominent of the Palestinian-Chilean groups is the Federación Palestina de Chile (Palestine Federation of Chile). They run charities, education programs – see video to the side, where the educate the children – and they have massive political clout.

The radicalization of Chile’s Palestinians is a growing phenomenom in the West. Yet, the United States and Israel, while complaining, are doing very little to counter this. A big mistake.

Chile’s Palestinians are the vanguard of anti-Israel propaganda in South America. Because Chile’s Palestinians are so rich, they have clout in a country which is South America’s rising economic star. They have the power to change a lot of public opinion in the Latin world.

Latin America is now becoming an economic powerhouse. It can no longer be ignored. Something has to be done to counter the strident anti-Israeli bias of Palestinian-Chileans. Now is the time to deal with this.

But to get a sense of this, please take a look at these prominent Chilean politicians visiting Palestine in 2016. There is nothing like this in the United States.

Posted on YouTube: Jul 29, 2016 – I was only able to translate the titles at the beginning and from (4:41) towards the end. Still, you can see they are getting the Palestinian line.

This phenomenom seems to be growing. Websites groups may come and go, but the the Federación Palestina de Chile seems to be the central organizing agency, now. It has massive political clout, and merits watching.

The Palestinians

May 12, 2017

When dealing with Latin America, most of the Arab ethnicities in those countries are either of Lebanese Christian or Syrian Christian extraction. Yes, there are other ethnicities as well; but they tend to be smaller.

This is not true of all Latin American countries, though.

IN CHILE, THE PALESTINIANS ARE THE MAJORITY OF ARABS.

Not just Chile, but also Honduras and El Salvador have prominent Palestinian populations as well.  However, since Chile is now a first world nation, and since Chile is an economic powerhouse in Latin America, it is Chile which we will pay attention to the most, in this series.

What one has to know is that Arabs are roughly 5% of Chile’s population;  but in Chile, the Palestinians are roughly 60% of the Arabs or 3% of Chile’s population.

They are rich, well-connected, powerful, and influential. They are also Christian, about 99% Christian, often Orthodox Christian.

THOUGH CHRISTIAN, PALESTINIAN CHILEANS SUPPORT THE STRUGGLE AGAINST ISRAEL.

This is just a statement of fact. Palestinian lobbies in Chile are extraordinarily powerful, and they work against Israel.

PALESTINE FOREVER Part 1
by the Comunidad Palestina de Chile – Posted on YouTube: March 23, 2015

Chile’s Palestinians (also called Chilestinos or Chilestinians) have distorted the politics of Chile in a way that most Latin American countries have not embraced. Israeli and Jewish groups are worried about that. And in Chile, these Palestinians are respectable.
