Why Are So Many Latin Countries Supporting Gaza?

A lot of info to digest.

The most important thing overlooked is that 31% of Brazil is now Evangelical, and they tend to strongly support Israel. Brazil’s Lulu can only go so far in his criticism of Israel.

Another issue is Latin culture, itself.

Latin/Spanish and Portuguese cultures center on the national liberation struggles against the Islamic/Moorish invaders of Spain and Portugal in the Middle Ages … the so-called Reconquista. Latin culture, at its core, is not friendly to Islam.

What is driving this pro-Palestinianism is the large influence of:

A) Palestinian ethnic groups in Latin America, especially Chile, Honduras, and El Salvador.

B) Iran’s propagandizing through HispanTV.

C) Leftist regimes.

And finally, one should take this news report with a grain of salt, as it is posted by AJPlus, a subset of Al Jazeera, which is a Qatari based anti-Israel media outlet.

Remember, not only Brazil, but also Guatemala has a very large pro-Israel Evangelical constituency. Guatemala is 40 percent Evangelical.

The Mossad and Brazilian authorities arrested some Hezbollah operatives who were planning to go after Jewish targets.

SAO PAULO, Brazil — The Brazilian Federal Police, working in cooperation with Israeli intelligence agencies, says it has disrupted a suspected domestic terror plot against Israeli and Jewish targets believed to be in its initial stages.

Federal investigators said Tuesday that they had uncovered a scheme allegedly involving the recruitment of Brazilian citizens by the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy, to orchestrate attacks against members of the 120,000-strong Brazilian Jewish community.

The intended targets reportedly included synagogues.

Brazil is a special case in Latin America. About 31% of the population is Evangelical, with a strong sense of support for Israel. Brazil also has roughly 15 million Arabs, but they tend to be of Christian descent, often Lebanese, who bear little or no animus towards Israel.

Simultaneously, Brazil has a low percentage of Jews in the population. So, Brazil would be inclined to help Israel.

This is an Arab restaurant in the Patagonia section of Argentina, in the city of El Calafate, in the southwest section of the Santa Cruz province. The city has a population of 25,000.

This is very far south, approaching the polar regions. El Calafate is named after a yellow flow, and is near Argentina’s Glacier National Park.

The point is to show how ubiquitous Arab culture and food are in Latin America, so common that it can even be found in subpolar regions.

Bolivia has cut off ties with Israel, while Colombia and Chile have recalled ambassadors. Pro-Palestinianism is MUCH stronger in Latin America than in the USA.

SANTIAGO, Nov 7 (Reuters) – Chile’s Palestinian community, the largest outside the Middle East, is a strong force in the Andean nation, involved in local politics, culture and soccer. Now it’s making Chile one of the loudest regional voices criticizing Israel over its military action in Gaza.

Chile’s President Gabriel Boric, a moderate figure in the Latin American left, recalled the country’s ambassador in Tel Aviv last week and said Israel was not abiding by international law.

On a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Boric added that the Israeli military operation “at this stage acts as a collective punishment to the civilian population in Gaza.” He brought up the issue with President Joe Biden during a bilateral meeting last Thursday in Washington.

The article does not go into full depth that the vast majority of Palestinians in Chile are Christians, who fled Ottoman Islamic rule. They seem to have forgotten that aspect of their ancestor’s lives and identity with a halcyon past of religious tolerance in the Holy Land that never existed.

Many of these Palestinian Chileans (Chilestinos) are multi-generational Chilean and intermarried.

But it does note their influence. Chile did pull its ambassador out of Israel.

While Europe and the USA are strongly in favor of Israel, Latin America is mixed.
